You Can Make a Health Drink at Home

Written by Mom on Friday, March 20th, 2009 in Recipes.

Processed drinks are not as good as those you make yourself because when you buy them from the store, some of the vitamins and nutrients are lost in the production process. This is why you should only consume a health drink that has been freshly made.

You can make your own health drink by blending either fruits or vegetables. Once you have all the ingredients which include the fruit or the vegetable, water, salt, sugar, water and crush ice, you can already blend it using the blender.

Don’t remove the pulp because it also contains essential vitamins and minerals. Since this is best served cold, add some more crushed ice.

These essential vitamins and minerals that we stress happen to be partners with enzymes and co-enzymes. Without it, we cannot carry out our work and live because this is needed by the body to absorb, convert and digest the food and drinks we consume to give us energy.

When making a health drink with either fruits or vegetables, remember that this should be raw. While some of these can be blended with the seeds still present, you better remove the seeds from orange or grapefruit since it has a bitter after taste.

If you happen to make a health drink that is not organically grown, you better peel off the upper layers because there may still be chemical residue there even if you have washed it in water. In the case of organically grown products, you still have to remove the outer skin of some which include those found in the grapefruit, kiwis, papaya, pineapple and orange.

You should also only make a health drink with fruits that are ripe. You can distinguish a product that is ripe from those that are not by examining the leaves or the sides. If you can’t tell the difference, you will end up drinking something that is not healthful and tasty.

Naturally, you can force the fruit or the vegetable down the mouth of your blender. You have to cut this into small pieces so everything will fit inside including the other ingredients you will be using. Don’t forget to also close the blender by putting the lid on top otherwise the contents inside will come out.

Now turn on the blender and then hold it for a few seconds until everything inside is mixed together. When it is ready, get a glass and then serve.

One thing you should remember about any health drink is that once you make it, you better finish it because the taste will be different after a day. This means only finish what you can consume so you avoid wastage. If you made too much, offer this to someone else who many also want to try it.

The process of making a health drink is not that different if you want to make juice, shake or a smoothie. You just have to prepare the ingredients and if ever what you made is too thick, just add water to make it more fluid.

A lot of people will agree that a health drink is the next best thing to food that you will otherwise consume. You don’t have to cook it since the blender will do all the work without losing any vitamins and minerals which happens when you put this in the frying pan.

What Moms Need

Written by Mom on Friday, March 20th, 2009 in Mom.

Moms need to feel appreciated for all of their hard work and dedication to their kids. It is probably the most difficult job on the planet and offers the least amount of encouragement and appreciation. A mom can spend an entire day devoted to her kids and their needs and at the end of the day never receive a single “thank you mom.” If this job were in the business world, most moms would quit their job within the first couple of months if not the first few weeks. Fortunately they can’t and most often, they don’t.

Surprisingly, the origin of Mother’s Day was not intended to honor and appreciate moms, but was adopted from the British after the civil war as a way for women to unite against war and promote it as a national day of peace. Mother’s Day was never nationally recognized until President Woodrow Wilson declared it as a national holiday. From that point on, commercialization of Mother’s Day as we now know it began to take its shape and it is now a day of recognition for moms.

It is indeed surprising that the original intention of Mother’s Day had nothing to do with encouraging and appreciating moms, because it’s very obvious that they need support. Over the last few decades as divorce has sadly become a socially acceptable alternative to unhappy marriages, the number of single mothers in the world is increasing. Moms are forced to play the role of both the mother and the father and their souls and spirits, hopes and dreams are dwindling. There are many organizations and resources now available to moms that provide them with support, advice, wisdom, answers to questions, hints, tips and tricks that all revolve around how to be a better mother.

A relatively new organization called Spotlight Mothers has been created in the form of a website www.spotlightmothers.com, where their primary purpose is to provide recognition and appreciation for the mothers of the United States. At this point in time they recognize three moms each week through a ‘Mother of the Week’, ‘Recipe of the Week’ and ‘Life Tip of the Week’. Not only are they providing free resources for moms, they are making it a point to appreciate and encourage the moms that have submitted their recipes, wisdom and advice. You will be able to find crockpot recipes, drink recipes, chili recipes, chocolate and dessert recipes, and even something as simple as a really good chocolate chip cookie recipe. Their Life Tips can range from early pregnancy symptoms to coping with letting your kids go; picking out baby girl names or baby boy names; shopping for mother of the bride dresses and so much more.

On top of all of that, they also have a ‘Mother of the Week’ award. Each and every week they feature a different mom by making her the center of attention on the site and sending her a gift and a certificate in the mail. You can nominate your own mom to be ‘Mother of the Week’ so that she will feel special and know that you, as her son, daughter or good friend, really do appreciate everything that she has done and will continue to do in the future.

Moms are in desperate need of appreciation. It’s about time we start taking their needs seriously and make every day, Mother’s Day.

Top 10 Ways for Kids to Deal With Mom!

Written by Mom on Friday, March 20th, 2009 in Mom.

Author: Donald Yates

Your Mom has a very weighty job, she not only gave birth to you she also has the responsibility of being your Mom. Come on, you didn’t come with an “Operations guide” or “How to manual” she is just left to wing it most of the time. Your Mom really wants what’s best for you and because of that, she sometimes gets a little stressed out. The truth is, Momhood is a strenuous, if not, impossible job at times.

How about good old Dad? Dad is just another kid for Mom to take care of. She cooks, washes the clothing, does the shopping and tries to hold the family together as a unit. Dad might be the pillar of the community but Mom is the cement that hold him up.

It’s no wonder Mom gets a little cranky when things aren’t going right. She’s on a rollercoaster and can’t get off.

It’s important for you to understand Mom has guarded feelings and at times, is easy to upset. There’s an old adage that says; “if Mom is unhappy, everyone is unhappy.” You would do good to never forget the power she wealds. Given your position, it is to your advantage to keep Mom happy and with a few precautions, working on your behalf. She is your link to your future happiness as well as very instrumental in your growth.

Never think Mom can’t raise havoc or bring wrath to your life’s experience. I am here to testify that she can and will, if your attitude warrants it. You can’t fight city hall or Mom, but you can use the power of persuasion to soften Mom so she will be more manageable.

There are steps you can take to help Mom view you as a asset and keep her working for your well being. Here are ten tips to make yours and Mom’s life more enjoyable.

1. Mom’s have a full plate. Sometimes Mom’s busy schedule causes her to overlook your needs. Clue Mom in with a clever post on the refrigerator door, or her pillow. Mom’s always like a special little note from their child. If done right it will show you care while turning her interest on your needs.

2. Get excited. Nothing makes Mom happier than seeing you excited. Even when things are downright boring get excited when Mom comes around. She will think she is doing a superb job raising you and be more apt to be agreeable when you need her attention.

3. Start a “book review” club with your friends. Mom will love seeing you interested in reading and host your friends with pleasure. You may just become an expert on some subject Mom also has an interest in.

4. Have your friends drop a note once in a while to praise Mom for doing such a good job. Mom loves getting recognition for being a positive role in your life. She needs to know she is number one to you and your friends.

5. Keep your space tidy and clean. Moms hate picking up after thoughtless children. With a tidy living space, you can better organize yourself and have more time to enjoy other activities.

6. Admit you need coaching because you have a lot to learn. Ask Mom to teach you how to cook or do something new. Mom is a wealth of information and experience, maybe she would teach you how to make chocolate chip cookies, knit, write a story, or raise flowers.

7. Show Mom a few tricks on surfing the Web. It will make her feel good that you shared your expertise and give you a chance to accidentally land on that new outfit you have been looking at.

8. Ask just enough questions to keep Mom thinking you really value her contribution to your learning. Mom’s are notorious for giving answers, some you might not want to hear.

9. The next time you go shopping with Mom, ask her for shopping pointers. Moms are notoriously famous for their expertise in shopping. She will be proud to hand down her knowledge for your benefit

10. Never say you are bored or Mom will put you to work. If she says, “you look bored” claim temporary insanity it may get you off. At least for a while

When all is said and done, Mom is the center of the household, even though Dad may think he is. You are the leg that keeps Mom steady. Because of you she is able to focus on the more important things in life, like seeing you are cared for and anticipating your giving her a grandchild. Your future depends on Mom and her willingness to be involved in it. Don’t ever underestimate Mom, she has powers you have not seen . . . yet.

Give her the credit she deserves and she will make your life enjoyable in return.

Happy Trails
